Plantation tips for date palm trees

Date palms are among the most exotic plantations worldwide, whether if it is the single 100 feet tall sprout or a multi-trunk tropical-looking herd. Date palms are native to dry and hot climates, which is why you will find an abundance of them in the Middle East, the Mediterranean, and the costs of California in the USA. The date palm sure is appealing enough to never miss out on in landscaping large areas, the tall height, and independence of each plant sets about the perfect boundary for a vast area.

Planting a date palm requires quite a lot of information to be gathered about the plant itself, although it can thrive well with the least care given if you want to enjoy the sweetness of the ripe fruits and avoid infestations and diseases, doing some research is always going to be beneficial. A date palm needs a lot of space to sprout well and healthy, horizontally and vertically. The roots structure of the tree is as such that it spreads wide and deep to collect surface water, which is why a minimum radius of 5ft is ideal to keep vacant around it when planting. It can be started as a pot plant but will need to be shifted to a bed a few months later, the fact that it can be grown in mud or soil equally well makes it more convenient to plant anywhere.

Since it is a plant native to dry and hot climates, the water requirements of the date palm are minimal throughout the year. You only need to water it twice a month during the hot summers and once a month in winter. It needs ample water during the production of fruit but not much as too much water causes the fruit to rot before it can completely ripen. It cannot survive and grow in areas with temperatures lower than 20 degrees Fahrenheit, so it would never be an ideal pick if you live in a cold climate zone.

Intensive care is needed for the plant to be free of infestations and diseases which you can hire your local plantations company for. The nutrient management and the chemical balancing of the soil further promote the healthy growth of the plants while keeping the infestations and pests at bay. The date palm is quite likely to sprout offsets now and then, you can cater for them with care if it is a multi-trunk plant that you would like or you can have them cut with a saw to be planted elsewhere as it is capable of sprouting roots on its own to be an independent plant. Another important thing to keep in mind when planting for fruits is that the date palm needs strong pollination to be able to bear fruit. A pro-tip for getting a bigger sized fruit and a guarantee the next season as well is by cutting half of the batch every year.
